Discover Jasmine Thai Restaurant

Walking into Jasmine Thai Restaurant feels like stepping into a comfortable neighborhood spot where the food does the talking. I’ve eaten Thai food across upstate New York for years, and this place stands out for consistency more than flash. Located at 2717 Broadway, Schenectady, NY 12306, United States, it’s the kind of diner-style restaurant locals return to after work, on weekends, or whenever comfort food with real flavor sounds right.

On my first visit, I ordered a classic pad thai and green curry, partly because those dishes tend to reveal whether a kitchen understands balance. Thai cuisine relies on a careful mix of sweet, salty, sour, and heat, and when one element overpowers the rest, the dish falls flat. Here, the noodles had the right chew, the tamarind flavor came through cleanly, and the spice level matched what I requested instead of overwhelming the plate. That attention to detail tells you the cooks aren’t guessing-they’re following a method that works.

The menu covers familiar Thai staples like drunken noodles, massaman curry, tom yum soup, and basil stir-fries, while also offering vegetarian and tofu-based options that don’t feel like afterthoughts. One thing I noticed after several visits is how customizable everything is. Servers consistently ask about spice tolerance, allergies, and protein preferences. According to data from the National Restaurant Association, more than 60% of diners say customization improves their experience, and Jasmine Thai Restaurant clearly understands that expectation in real-world service.

Reviews from local diners often mention portion size and value, and that’s accurate. Plates are generous without being sloppy, making it a popular choice for takeout as well as dine-in. I once watched a steady stream of regulars picking up online orders while families settled into booths, which speaks to how well the restaurant handles volume without rushing food out the door. That kind of operational balance is something restaurant consultants often cite as a marker of long-term success.

The kitchen sticks to traditional preparation methods rather than shortcuts. Curries are simmered, not rushed, and stir-fries arrive hot with vegetables that still have texture. A server once explained that sauces are made in-house rather than poured straight from bottles, which aligns with recommendations from Thai culinary educators who emphasize fresh aromatics like garlic, chili, and lemongrass as the foundation of authentic flavor. You can taste that difference, especially in dishes like rich coconut curry and balanced noodle bowls.

From a cleanliness and safety standpoint, the restaurant appears well-managed. Public health research from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention consistently shows that visible kitchen practices and dining room cleanliness strongly influence trust, and Jasmine Thai Restaurant scores well there. Tables are cleared quickly, utensils are properly wrapped, and the space feels cared for rather than just maintained. While I can’t see behind the kitchen doors, the front-of-house standards inspire confidence.

No restaurant is perfect, and during peak dinner hours, wait times can stretch longer than expected. On busy nights, the phone lines for takeout can also get backed up. That said, staff are upfront about timing and don’t overpromise, which goes a long way in building trust with repeat customers.

For anyone searching restaurant reviews that reflect real dining experiences rather than hype, this spot delivers steady quality, honest flavors, and a welcoming atmosphere. Between the thoughtful menu, reliable service, and loyal local following, it’s easy to see why Jasmine Thai Restaurant has become a familiar name in Schenectady’s dining scene.

  • The food was delicious! There were so many amazing sounding dishes. We ordered a few appetizers and every one was fantastic. The staff was friendly and made our visit very welcoming. They even made our meal more special when they found it it was my birthday.

  • We really like Jasmine Thai and have been going here for years. The service is consistently excellent and they’ve even been amping it up lately with live music and such. They can get really busy and they’ve even still manage it well. The food is solid. The flavors aren’t as well-developed as other area restaurants, but the food is consistent. They also do a great job accommodating both people who love spicy and those of us who can’t handle spice. Parking can be a bit tight, but we’ve always managed to get a spot.

  • Jasmine Thai was a place that we happened to stop when traveling from Albany to a customer site. My partner and I said we wanted to have some great Thai food and we did. Its rating was well deserved. They were one of the few that were open on Mondays and were glad they were. Great from the cold Thai tea to the chicken curry and shrimp pad that.

  • The crispy duck was most succulent! The drunken noodles with chicken weren’t the best I’ve ever had, but it was good and had a decent amount of heat (level 2, although I should’ve went with at least a 3). The appetizers were delicious, and the service was friendly. The server was helpful in suggesting the amount of heat to add to the Drunken Noodles, which was appreciated being that I’m kind of a rookie when it comes to Thai food. Despite that, I still highly recommend this place!

  • From the moment we walked in the atmosphere was relaxing. We were greeted and seated right away. Now the most important review.. The food was amazingly cooked and plated , the taste off the charts 12/10 for sure. It was so good, I couldn't get enough shrimp.

  • Today I was in the mood for Thai food for lunch, so I went to Jasmine Thai. Not my first time. I ate some of my food and bagged the rest to take home. I left a $5 tip (which was more than 15% of my bill) on the table and went up to the counter to pay for my meal with my debit card. She ran my card and I signed the receipt for the purchase amount only, remember I left $5 cash on the table. After I signed the merchant copy I handed it back to the cashier. She shoved it back to me saying where's the tip. I asked her "who said I was leaving one, jokingly. She couldn't see the cash on the table because my to go bag was in front of it. She went on a rampage saying when you go to a restaurant you have to leave a tip, she works for very little money and she needs a tip. She even asked me if she should work for free and that I needed to leave a tip. I was pissed by now. By that time her coworker came to the counter with the money I had left on the table and said she left it. No apology from the cashier, nothing. I'm assuming the cashier thought because I was Black I wouldn't automatically leave a tip. The nerve of her. I will never spend another dime in that restaurant. Pho Queen has better food and that's where I'll be eating from now on. She chose to work in a restaurant so she has to deal with the consequences of people not leaving a tip. Get another job.

  • Love their food! I’ve been coming here for their lunch special for a few years now. I recommend the garden salad as an app - which is a pretty large portion size, btw. It’s refreshing and their ginger dressing doesn’t compare to others I’ve had. My go-to dish is the Jasmine Spicy Basil w/ shrimp. The level of spiciness is perfect AS IS. Anything beyond that will be overpowering. Be mindful of the level of spice you choose for that reason! Low wait times- especially during lunch. Clean environment, pleasant staff. Must visit if you haven’t already.
